What we do

Almost all of us are within a short walk or trip to a community pharmacy and every pharmacy has a highly qualified pharmacist. Pharmacists specialise in the knowledge of medicines, dosages, interactions and how medicines act on the body. They can answer queries you may have concerning your medication such as which counter medicines are safe to take with your regular medication. Pharmacists are also highly trained in recognising symptoms of disease and can recommend appropriate treatment and advice on improving your health. Pharmacy staff are also trained to give advice on counter medicines.

Who do we support

Located where people work, shop and live, community pharmacies provide convenient advice and support to the people of Wales right at the heart of their communities. To the public, it is perhaps the most accessible face of the NHS.

Pharmacists are the experts in medicines and can advise you about the medicines your doctor has prescribed, medicines or products you may buy and leading a healthy lifestyle.

Most pharmacies now have a private consultation room in which you can sit down and have a chat about any problems you are experiencing or questions you have with regards to your medicines.

Is there a charge to use this service?

Depends - Pharmacies provide free NHS services to support you take your medicines as well as services to help you have a healthy lifestyle. They also provide private services that you can pay for yourself.

Can anyone use this service?

Many pharmacies are open in the evenings and weekends. You don’t need a referral or an appointment; you can just drop in and ask to speak to the pharmacist. They also offer many free services that you may not be aware of which could save you a trip to the GP and help improve your health.
