What we do

Advocacy Support Cymru (ASC) is a registered charity and specialises in providing confidential and independent advocacy support for people. ASC provides an independent community mental health advocacy service to qualifying patients.

We provide information on patient’s rights and help them exercise those rights. We provide a voice for individuals so that their needs and preferences are given consideration in the planning of their medication treatment and care.

Who do we support

Community Advocacy is for people who are:
- Receiving secondary mental health services – usually meaning that your care is managed via a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT)
- Psychiatric inpatients requiring advocacy for issues not related to medication or treatment.
- Wishing to be reassessed by a CMHT for secondary services where their case has been closed with the last three years.

All Health Boards in Wales provide a Community Advocacy service for qualifying patients in their area. At this time, ASC provides Community Advocacy service for people of any age in Cardiff & Vale UHB and Swansea Bay UHB areas and Bridgend County Borough Council area.

Is there a charge to use this service?

No

Can anyone use this service?

Anyone who is in receipt of secondary mental health services which will usually mean that their care is managed by a care coordinator based in a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) or anyone wishing to be reassessed by a CMHT for secondary services where their case has been closed within the past three years.
