Displaced People In Action (DPIA) develop an intensive package of support for new families which we then reduce incrementally over the course of five years in order to foster the families' independence. At the beginning, we are able to provide support in all areas of life, from attending health appointments, finding volunteering/education/training/employment opportunities, teaching families how to use such services as public transport, libraries, etc.DPIA currently works closely with three LAs in Wales since 2015 to support refugee families who have been accommodated in the West Gwent areas. DPIA's role is to work with families to increase their knowledge and skills to build resilience and become independent as soon as possible. Without our professional and in-depth knowledge, caring and understanding, these families may not otherwise find ways to integrate into their new communities.
