What we do

Tinnitus is the perception of noises in the head and/or ear which have no external source. It derives from the latin word for ringing and those living with the condition may have to endure a ringing, buzzing, hissing, whistling or other noise. The sensation can be constant or intermittent and it can vary in volume. Tinnitus UK are an independent charity supporting thousands of people who experience tinnitus and advise medical professionals from across the world. They are the primary source of support and information for people with tinnitus in the UK, facilitating an improved quality of life. They aim to encourage prevention through our educational programme and to seek effective treatment for tinnitus through a medical research programme.

They seek to provide the most appropriate and expert advice and information free of charge via their confidential freephone helpline.

Who do we support

Tinnitus can affect anybody, regardless of age or lifestyle. We have recently added webchat facilities on our website - click on the 'chat' icon found on each page - and a text service on 07537 416841.

Our helpline - 0800 018 0527 - and webchat service are available between 10am and 4pm on weekdays. You can also get in touch via 'helpline@tinnitus.org.uk' with e-mailed questions.

This service is for people aged 18+.

Can anyone use this service?

Anyone can contact us directly, although we are unable to support service users under 18 years old without the express permission of a parent or guardian.
