What we do

Save a Life Cymru is part of the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust.
We help people in Wales learn what to do if someone has a cardiac arrest.
What we do:
We want everyone in Wales to feel confident to save a life by knowing how to:
• Give CPR
• Use a defibrillator (a machine that gives an electric shock to restart a heart)
A cardiac arrest is when a person’s heart suddenly stops.
It is very serious and can happen to anyone, at any age, and at any time.
More than 70% of cardiac arrests happen at home, so it is important that family, friends, and neighbours know what to do.
Signs someone may be having a cardiac arrest:
• They are unresponsive - do not wake up when you shake or speak to them
• They are not breathing, or not breathing normally and are making strange gasping sounds
What to do:
• Call 999 straight away
• Start CPR
• Listen to the 999-call handler — they will tell you exactly what to do until help arrives

This service is for people of all ages.
