What we do

Our Constitution states that "The aims of the Society are to secure and promote the conservation, development and improvement of the Welsh island of Flat Holm and its features of general public amenity, or historic, ecological or public interest. "
This means that we supply Tour Guides, Volunteers and obtain grants for the island, we also carry out surveys, an annual gull count and run working weekends where members of all ages and abilities can stay and appreciate the island at its best.

Who do we support

Anyone and everyone who has an interest in conservation, local history, Victoriana, maritime matters, lighthouses, the natural world and islands and would like to come and volunteer on the island! Due to sailing regulations, volunteers must be over 12 years old and will have to be reasonably able-bodied to get onto and around the island. There are steps and uneven areas.

This service is for people of all ages.

Is there a charge to use this service?

Yes - Visits can be arranged via one of the boat companies operating out of Cardiff Bay. You pay them directly for the journey.
There is a landing fee for non-members
There is a nominal charge to cover expenses for members attending a working party on the island, this varies but is usually £10 - £15 per person, more for non-members.
The Flat Holm Society organises regular residential working parties on the island.

Can anyone use this service?

Anyone can visit the island, there are conditions on who can ride in the boats, but this is controlled by the boat companies.
