If you are struggling to carry out simple domestic chores, like vacuuming the stairs or cleaning the kitchen it might be time to consider bringing in some outside help.
Local councils do not provide this kind of support. You will have to decide yourself what help you need with household chores and how much you can afford to pay.
If you do pay someone to clean your home, you will have the added benefit of regular company. On the other hand, services like ironing are often provided elsewhere (with delivery and drop-off included in the price). Some cleaners might be willing to do your ironing too, but be certain to ask beforehand.
Using an agency
Domestic cleaning and household services are provided by many private companies across Wales. Check that all their employees have been police-checked and agree a rate in writing before any work is undertaken.
The advantage of using an agency is that you don’t have to accept the first person they send and if your usual cleaner is on holiday or leaves, your home will still be cleaned.
Most agencies also offer additional services like oven cleaning, window cleaning and carpet cleaning but make certain you are clear about the price you are being charged before you agree to any additional services.
It’s always worth asking friends and family for recommendations. If you do have to advertise, be sure to ask for references from previous employers (and follow them up).
