If you are an older person, disabled or on a low income, you may be eligible for a grant to help you adapt your property, repair and maintain it or keep you warm during the winter months.

Whether or not you are eligible for a specific grant depends upon your current housing situation, your needs and your financial situation.

Grants for adaptations

You may be eligible for help to pay for small, medium and large adaptations to your property (depending on your circumstances).

Grants to repair and maintain your property

Care and Repair is a network of 13 agencies across Wales which carry out grant-funded improvements to help elderly and disabled homeowners live safely in their homes. There is no charge to the home owner.

Grants to heat your property

If you are worried about the cost of heating your home, there are home improvement grants available to help you make it warmer and save energy.

Nest is a Welsh Government scheme which aims to reduce the number of people living in fuel poverty. Nest provides free advice and support to everyone about saving energy. There is also financial help available for home owners (and private renters) who live in hard-to-heat properties and receive certain means-tested benefits.

You may be eligible for free:

  • loft and cavity wall insulation
  • having an old boiler replaced with an energy-efficient one
  • insulation for a hot water cylinder
  • draught proofing on windows and doors
  • renewable energy technologies.

If your home is difficult to heat and you receive certain benefits, you may be eligible for ECO Boiler Grant Assistance.

Not on mains gas

If you are over 70 or on certain benefits and your main residence is not currently connected to the gas network, you could be eligible for a Gas Connection Grant towards the cost of connecting it.

Grants to bring a property back into use

The Empty Homes Scheme encourages owners to bring empty properties – residential and commercial – back into use (for sale or rent). Interest free loans of up to £25,000 per property are available with up to £250,000 per application.

Turn2Us has a grant tool to help you find grants for which you might be eligible.
