Everybody needs shelter and security, somewhere safe to retreat when things get tough. Finding a decent and affordable home in which to live, and perhaps bring up a family, is becoming more and more difficult for many people.
If you are one of the thousands of people in Wales who do not have a permanent roof over their heads, it’s important to know there is a lot of free housing advice available to you.
Local councils – even those who no longer own any housing stock – can offer you advice about housing and what to do if you are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Housing charities like Shelter Cymru and Llamau will offer free expert housing advice to you, regardless of your housing situation.
Maybe you have a property that no longer meets your housing needs, perhaps because you are unable to walk upstairs or get into the bath.
If you find yourself in this situation, you may be eligible for a housing grant to help you make the necessary adaptations to enable you to carry on living safely and independently in your current home.
There are also housing grants available to help with insulating older properties.
Local councils also offer interest-free loans to eligible home owners and landlords to enable the repair or improvements of properties.
