Being able to access suitable housing is one of the main problems facing many disabled and older people.
Though not a legal requirement, some local authorities have compiled registers which:
- identify disabled people in need of accessible homes
- identify suitable properties by location and type
- match the person with a suitable property
You don’t have to be living in the area you want to register in, so you can register in an area you want to move to. You can also register in more than one area.
You can also apply to be on the Accessible Housing Register if you own your own home.
If you live in an area which does not have an Accessible Housing Register, contact your local council or housing association for advice.
