Unfortunately, the risk of flooding is becoming a reality for many people across Wales.
If you live in an area which is prone to flooding and/or your home has been flooded in recent years, it’s worth taking whatever precautionary measures you can to prevent it happening again or, at least, minimise the danger to yourself and the damage to your home.
Is your home is at risk of flooding?
Natural Resources Wales issues flood alerts and warnings for flooding from rivers and the sea.
- Flood alerts – when flooding is possible and you should be prepared to take action
- Flood warnings – when specific area are expected to be flooded and you should take action immediately
If you live in an area which has been flooded before – or is at risk of flooding – it might be worth signing up to Natural Resources Wales’ free warning service. Then, if the worst happens, you will have time to prepare.
Flooding advice
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has put together very comprehensive advice on what to do before the flood, during the flood and after the flood on its website.
In the event of a flood, turn off the gas, electricity and water at the mains. Do not drink tap water if there is any possibility it might be contaminated by flood water or sewage.
